What is an agentic website?
A website AI can read, and your team can change by asking
An agentic website is one AI tools such as ChatGPT can read and quote, and one your team changes by asking an AI coding agent such as Claude Code. Someone checks each change before it goes live, so a new headline takes one conversation with the agent.
Why does a headline change turn into a project?
A new headline becomes a ticket. A page for a new industry becomes a project. A campaign waits on a designer, a developer, an agency, or the one person who knows how the site works. AI can write the code now, but it needs the site’s goals and rules, and those often live in one tool or one person’s chat history.
Stuck inside a site builder
Your team can change what the builder allows. A new kind of page, a tracking change or an experiment still needs an agency or an engineer.
Stuck in one person’s chat
A vibe-coded site moves fast at first. When its goals, design rules, brand voice and tests aren’t written down, each new agent has to guess how it should work.
Hard for AI tools to find
Thin links, vague page names and content hidden behind tabs or clicks make the site harder for search engines and AI tools to read.
What AI tools and AI agents need from your website
Readable by AI
The pages that matter load as plain HTML with real links. Search engines and AI answer tools can reach them, tell what they cover, and use them in an answer.
The main content sits on the page itself, each page keeps a stable address, and every title and description matches what the page says.
Editable by AI
The code sits in a repository with what a coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor needs to know: which page to change, how the brand looks and sounds, and what has to pass before release. It makes one focused change and sends it back for review.
The repository is yours. The goals, page structure, design rules and brand voice are written down, and shared components and checks guide each change.
Why plain HTML matters: Google recommends server-side or static rendering for content that JavaScript would otherwise build in the browser, and Vercel’s study of AI crawlers found that none of the major ones, OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s included, rendered JavaScript. We read both on 6 November 2026.
Five questions to check your website against
- Can AI tools find and understand your most important pages?
- Can they follow links from one page to the pages related to it?
- Can a coding agent find your goals, brand voice and design rules?
- Can it change one page without rebuilding the whole site?
- Can someone check and test that change before it goes live?
What makes a website easy for AI to read and safe for AI to change
Keep the main content on the page
Visitors and crawlers see the copy, the links and the page title without clicking through anything first.
Give each useful idea its own page
Clear addresses and links give people and AI tools a simple map of the site.
Store the instructions with the code
The goals, the agent’s instructions, the brand voice, design rules, examples and component rules live in the repository, where every agent reads them.
Let marketing ask for the change
Someone in marketing describes the page, checks the result and publishes it, with one review in place of a chain of hand-offs.
Check every change before it goes live
Preview links, tests, a look at the finished page and a pre-launch checklist catch problems before visitors see them.
What changed when we moved our own site
We run digitalmarketingagency.sg this way. It moved off WordPress to a static site served from a GitHub repository, and the repository holds the rules: the page structure, our brand voice, the claims we may and may not make, and the checks every change has to pass.
In the 30 days to 6 November 2026, 369 of its 370 changes were made with an AI coding agent. Each new page, this one included, is built from one data file. When a check fails, the change stops before it goes live. It’s the setup we now build for clients, and you can read the llms.txt file it gives AI tools.

Get a free audit of how agent-ready your site is
Send us your site. Before we talk, we answer the five questions above for it, check what Google and AI tools can read, and work out what a move or a fix would involve.
- 1You get a WhatsApp from us straight away, and a reply from the team within one working day.
- 2We run your free site audit before we talk.
- 3We walk you through it on a short call. If an agentic website fits, you get a quote. If it doesn’t, we’ll say so.
