Why are bigger competitors ranking higher than you?

Most businesses that ask us about national SEO are stuck in one of three places.

You only show up for your brand name

Search your company name and you’re first. Search what you sell and you’re nowhere, while three competitors take the clicks.

Local SEO got you onto the map, and no further

You rank near your shop. Buyers in Jurong, Punggol and Woodlands who search the broad term never see you.

Your site ranks for searches that never buy

Traffic went up after the last agency. Enquiries didn’t, because the keywords were picked for volume.

We rank for the broad searches in our own market

"Digital marketing agency" is about as national a search as it gets in our trade. This is where our pages sat on Google Singapore on 28 October 2026. Search them yourself.

“digital marketing agency”

#1 on Google Singapore: digitalmarketingagency.sg. Search it yourself.

“local seo singapore”

#1 on Google Singapore: digitalmarketingagency.sg/local-seo. Search it yourself.

According to DataForSEO data from September 2026, our site ranks for 589 searches in Singapore, and 222 of them are in Google’s top 10. We’d do the same work on your site.

What is national SEO?

National SEO is search engine optimisation (search engine optimization, in American spelling) aimed at the broad searches people make all over Singapore, whatever their postcode. The goal is page one of Google’s search results for terms with no location in them. Think "corporate gifts singapore", "accounting software" or "buy office chairs online". The buyer could be anywhere on the island, and so could you.

Local SEO is the other half. It wins the map and the "near me" searches around a physical address, which is what a clinic or a café needs. National SEO goes after the category terms themselves. Those searches have bigger audiences and more competition, so winning them takes more content, more links and a site that Google can crawl without trouble.

In the US or the UK, national SEO means ranking across the entire country rather than one city. In Singapore it usually means the whole island rather than one district. The work is the same: research, pages, links and technical fixes, aimed at the search terms people use across the country instead of location-specific ones.

What changes for you each month

You target searches that buy

Keyword research weighs volume, competition and buying intent, so the work goes into searches you can win and that bring enquiries.

Your pages cover the whole category

Topic clusters: one strong page per service or product, with supporting articles that answer what buyers ask before they call.

Other sites point to you

Link building and outreach, so Google trusts your site enough to rank it against the established names.

Google can read every page

Technical fixes to speed, crawl errors and site structure. The bigger your site gets, the more these matter.

AI answers can name you

Schema, answer-first pages and consistent facts about your business, so ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews can cite you. It’s part of every SEO plan. More on AI SEO.

You see what it brought in

Rankings, organic traffic and enquiries in one monthly report, with a specialist to walk you through it.

How a national SEO campaign runs

Free audit

We check your site’s technical health, pages and backlinks, and where you rank today for the broad searches in your category.

Keyword research

The island-wide searches your buyers make, how many people make them, and how hard each one is to win.

Competitor analysis

Who holds page one for those searches, why, and the gaps they’ve left open.

Strategy and keyword map

Each search gets one page that should win it, and the quick wins go first.

Content and on-page work

Service pages rewritten and new topic-cluster articles written to cover your category in depth.

Links, fixes and reporting

Backlinks earned every cycle, technical issues fixed as the site grows, and a report on what moved.

What the first six months look like

National searches are competitive, so this takes longer than local SEO. Here’s what each stretch looks like from your side.

Months 1 and 2

The audit, the keyword map and the technical fixes. You agree which pages should win which searches.

Months 3 and 4

New and rewritten pages go live, links start coming in, and the less contested searches start to move.

Months 5 and 6

The broader category searches climb toward page one, and enquiries from Google start showing in your report.

After month 6

Content and links keep adding up. This is usually when national traffic grows fastest.

Six months in, you’ll have a number to hold us to

Silver and Gold SEO plans carry a guarantee measured at month six. Either 10% of your target keywords reach page one, or your organic traffic grows by 20% from where we started. On Gold it’s 15% or 25%. If we miss it, you get three months free.

We won’t promise you #1 for a broad search. Nobody can, and you should walk away from anyone who does.

See which searches bring enquiries

Once a month you’ll see where your national keywords rank, how much traffic Google sent, and how many enquiries came from it. A specialist walks you through the report and tells you what we’re working on next. Silver clients get rank updates every two weeks, and Gold clients get them weekly.

How much does national SEO cost in Singapore?

Our SEO plans run from $600 to $2,200 a month on a 12-month plan, or from $857 month to month. Where you land depends on how contested your category is, how many searches you want to win and what shape your site is in. The free audit comes first, so the quote is based on your site as it stands today.

What changes the price of national SEO

How contested your category isRanking for "insurance singapore" takes far more work than a niche industrial term.
How many searches you want to winEach search needs a page, content and links pointing at it.
The size and state of your siteLarge sites with crawl or speed problems need fixing before content can rank.

What it takes to rank nationally

  • Topical depth: a page for every service, plus articles that cover the questions around it
  • Backlinks from trusted, relevant sites, built steadily over months
  • A fast site that Google can crawl and index without errors
  • A clear internal linking structure, so Google knows which pages matter most
  • Search intent matched page by page, so buyers find what they came for
  • Schema markup and consistent business facts, for rich results and AI answers

Common national SEO mistakes we see in Singapore

  • Treating national SEO like local SEO, and expecting a Google Business Profile to win category searches
  • Chasing the highest-volume keyword in the category and ignoring the searches that buy
  • Thin pages that cover a topic in two paragraphs
  • Too few quality links to compete with established competitors
  • Letting a growing site slow down, break links or bloat with duplicate pages
  • Stopping at month three, before broad searches have had time to move

How to choose a national SEO company in Singapore

Questions worth asking any agency, us included.

  • Can I search your own rankings for a broad term in your market?
  • What exactly do you guarantee, and by when? Walk away from anyone who promises #1.
  • How many words of content and how many links will I get each month?
  • Who writes the content, and does someone who knows SEO check it?
  • Will the report show enquiries, or only rankings and traffic?
  • What will you do about AI search, and is it extra?

National SEO terms, in plain English

  • Head term: a short, broad search with lots of volume, like "office furniture"
  • Long-tail keyword: a longer, more specific search with less volume and clearer intent
  • Topical authority: how fully your site covers a subject, which helps it rank for the whole topic
  • Topic cluster: one main page on a subject, linked to articles that cover its sub-questions
  • Search intent: what someone wants when they search, whether that’s to buy, compare or learn
  • Domain authority: a third-party score for how strong a site’s backlinks are

How we build a national SEO strategy

A national SEO strategy starts with your target audience and the products or services you most want to sell. From there we build the keyword strategy. Some high-volume keywords are worth chasing. Many aren’t, because the people typing them are students, job seekers or researchers.

So we mix three kinds of search terms. Broad head terms build visibility across the national market. Long-tail keywords bring buyers with high intent and less competition. Comparison and question searches catch people who are close to choosing. Each one gets mapped to a specific page, so two of your pages never compete for the same search.

The content strategy follows the keyword map. High-quality content for national SEO usually means long-form service pages, guides and blog posts that answer one question properly. Quality content beats volume: ten thin posts rarely outrank one page that covers the topic in full.

  • Search visibility: the share of your category’s searches where you appear

National SEO: frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between national and local SEO?
Local SEO wins "near me" and map searches around a location. National SEO targets broad category searches with no location in them, across the whole market. Local suits a single shopfront. National suits anyone who sells or serves beyond one area.
Is national SEO right for my business?
Yes, if you sell online, deliver across Singapore, run several outlets, or serve customers wherever they are. If your trade is walk-ins from one neighbourhood, local SEO is the better place to start. We’ll tell you which on the free audit call.
How long does national SEO take to work?
Longer than local SEO, because the searches are more contested. Expect early movement in three to four months, and the broad terms to climb from month five. Silver and Gold carry a guarantee measured at six months.
Why is national SEO more competitive?
You’re up against every serious business in your category at once, wherever in Singapore they’re based. Winning takes deeper content, more backlinks and a site with no technical problems holding it back.
Do I need a lot of content for national SEO?
Usually, yes. Broad searches reward sites that cover their topic in depth, so we build clusters of pages around each service. Our plans include 3,000 to 10,000 words of content a month.
How important are backlinks for national SEO?
Very. Links from trusted sites are a big part of how Google decides who ranks for contested searches. Every plan includes backlinks each cycle, from 25 on Lite to 80 on Gold.
Can you do national SEO for a multi-location business?
Yes. We rank each outlet for searches near it, and build one strong site for the broad category searches. Our Traditional + Local SEO plans cover local keyword research for up to 10 or more locations on Gold.
Will national SEO help my local rankings too?
Usually. The content, links and technical work behind national rankings strengthen the whole site, which tends to lift local rankings as well.
How do you choose which keywords to target?
We weigh search volume, competition and buying intent, then look at the competitors on page one to find searches you can realistically win. Effort goes to the ones that bring enquiries.
Does national SEO help with AI search?
Yes. AI answers lean on pages that rank and state facts clearly, and the same depth and links that win broad searches help you get cited. AI search work is included in every SEO plan.
Do you guarantee page one or #1?
We don’t guarantee #1. Silver and Gold SEO plans guarantee 10% of your target keywords on page one or 20% more organic traffic within six months, and Gold raises that to 15% or 25%.
How is national SEO different from your general SEO services?
It uses the same plans and the same work, aimed at broad island-wide searches. Map rankings are the job of local SEO. See all our SEO services.
How much does SEO typically cost in Singapore?
Published prices run from about $500 a month for basic work to $5,000 and up for national campaigns, and one Singapore guide puts national SEO at SGD 3,000 to 15,000 a month. Our plans run $600 to $2,200 a month on a 12-month plan.
Is SEO still worth it in 2026?
Yes. People still search Google before they buy, and AI answers pull from pages that already rank. A page that ranks keeps bringing visitors after the work on it is done.
What does SEO stand for?
Search engine optimisation: the work of getting your website into Google’s unpaid results for the searches your buyers make.
What is an SEO services company?
An agency that does the research, technical fixes, content and link building to get your site ranking, and reports on what it brings in.
Which SEO agency is the top in Singapore?
The one whose rankings you can check yourself, whose guarantee has numbers and a deadline, and whose reports show enquiries. Ask any agency, including us, to show you a live Google search.
National SEO vs local SEO: which is better for a Singapore business?
Neither is better on its own. Local SEO suits local businesses that serve a specific area. National SEO suits businesses whose buyers are spread across Singapore. Multi-location brands usually need both.
What is E-E-A-T and does it matter for national SEO?
E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust, the qualities Google looks for in content. It matters more for national searches, because Google compares you with every serious site in your category.
Should I use Google Ads while national SEO builds up?
Often, yes. Ads bring enquiries while organic rankings climb, and the ad data shows which search terms convert, which helps the SEO strategy.
