WhatsApp has no schedule button in normal chats, on iPhone or Android. So when a quote needs chasing on Friday, someone has to remember on Friday. You’ve got two real alternatives: a paid business broadcast in the WhatsApp Business app where it’s offered, or software connected to the API.

Below you’ll find what each route does, which apps put your number at risk and what can stop a scheduled message going out. Each WhatsApp fact comes from WhatsApp’s or Meta’s own pages, read on 2 November 2026.

Can you schedule a message in WhatsApp? Not in a normal chat

We searched WhatsApp’s help centre for scheduling on 2 November 2026 and found no way to set a send time on a normal chat message. That goes for iPhone, Android and the computer versions.

The nearest feature is Meta AI, and it isn’t quite this. WhatsApp says you can schedule tasks in your chat with Meta AI, which then sends you a reminder at the time you picked. So it reminds you, and it doesn’t message your customer. Meta AI is also limited to some countries.

For one or two messages, a phone reminder does the job safely. Set it for the time you want, then open the chat and send. You still press the button, but nothing touches your WhatsApp account.

How to schedule in the WhatsApp Business app, with business broadcasts

The Business app has one thing you can schedule: a business broadcast, which is a paid message to many contacts at once. WhatsApp’s steps go like this:

  1. Go to Tools, then Business broadcasts.
  2. Select your audience, from your address book or a list you’ve imported.
  3. Add your text, plus any image, video, document or button.
  4. Preview it, since Meta reviews broadcasts before they go out.
  5. Review the price and recipients, then send or schedule.

Some details matter here. You’re charged when you schedule, for each message delivered within 5 days, and anything undelivered comes back. Processing is usually seconds but can take up to 3 hours, so don’t schedule a lunch deal for 11:55am. If your account is blocked before the send time, the broadcast won’t go out and you won’t be charged.

WhatsApp says business broadcasts are in “limited countries” and “might not be available to you yet”. It does list an SGD rate card, so check your Tools tab. They also stop working once your number is connected to the WhatsApp Business Platform. For one-to-one messages, the Business app gives you away messages and greeting messages, which fire when a customer writes in, but no send timer.

Our WhatsApp broadcast guide compares business broadcasts with ordinary broadcast lists.

Through the API: your software holds the message and sends it on time

The API sends when it’s told to, and we found no send-later setting in Meta’s message docs. Scheduling lives in the software on top. It stores the message and the time, then calls the API when the time comes. So any inbox, CRM or workflow tool connected to the API can do it.

You don’t need to be technical, but you do need the rules. Our guide to the WhatsApp Business API explains how to get access, and our WhatsApp API pricing guide lists what each message costs.

Why scheduler apps can cost you your number

Search your app store and you’ll find apps and browser add-ons that promise to send WhatsApp messages on a timer. Read WhatsApp’s warnings before you install one.

WhatsApp calls third-party apps and websites that act as WhatsApp “unofficial”, and says linking your account to them breaks its terms. It says your account might be “temporarily or permanently banned”, and you could be restricted from linking devices. WhatsApp names GB WhatsApp and FM WhatsApp as examples, and adds that linked devices only work through its official apps or the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Your company number holds your customers, your quotes and your reviews. A timer isn’t worth risking it for.

Challenges with scheduled messages, and how to get round them

These are the ones that stop a send:

  • The 24-hour window has closed: outside 24 hours since the customer’s last message, Meta only allows a template you’ve had approved. So plan a template for any follow-up that goes out later than a day.
  • The template isn’t approved yet: review can take up to 24 hours, so submit it at least a day before.
  • You’ve hit your messaging limit: new accounts reach 250 people outside the window in 24 hours, which can cut off a big send.
  • The person has had too many marketing messages: Meta may hold them back, and the error is 131049. Wait at least 24 hours before trying again.
  • They never opted in: Meta requires opt-in that names your business, and in Singapore the Do Not Call rules cover marketing sent over WhatsApp.
  • The send time is rude: software will happily send at 2am if you tell it to, so set sending hours.

What’s worth scheduling: reminders, quote follow-ups and festive greetings

This part is our own view. We’d schedule these first:

  • Appointment reminders, the morning of or the day before, since a clinic or aircon firm feels no-shows straight away.
  • Quote follow-ups, two or three days after you send a quote, because quotes go cold when nobody asks again.
  • Payment reminders on the due date.
  • Festive greetings and promotions for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali or Christmas, on the right morning.
  • Service reminders, like an aircon servicing every three months.

Don’t schedule anything a person should say. A reply to a complaint can’t wait for 9am.

Your WhatsApp scheduling questions, answered

Can I schedule a WhatsApp message on iPhone?

Not in a normal chat. WhatsApp’s help centre describes no send-later option. Use a reminder and send it yourself, or use software on the API for business messages.

Can I schedule a WhatsApp message on Android?

Not in WhatsApp itself. Android apps that claim to do it aren’t WhatsApp’s own, and WhatsApp warns that unofficial apps can get your account banned.

Can I schedule a WhatsApp message on my computer?

No. We found no scheduling option in WhatsApp’s pages on using it from a computer. Browser add-ons that automate it aren’t WhatsApp’s own, so we’d treat them like the unofficial apps above.

Does WhatsApp Business have a schedule message feature?

Only for business broadcasts, which are paid and in limited countries. Away and greeting messages are automatic replies, so they don’t send at a time you choose.

Can I schedule a message to a group?

We found no option for that in WhatsApp’s help pages. On a number that runs both the app and the API, Meta says groups aren’t supported on the API either.

What does a scheduled message cost?

A normal message you send yourself is free. Business broadcasts and API template messages are charged per delivered message.

Do my customers know it was scheduled?

No. It arrives like any message from your business.

Can I cancel a scheduled message?

That depends on the tool. WhatsApp’s page says you can delete a business broadcast, but anyone who’s already received it keeps it.

Stop relying on someone to remember: scheduled sends for your team

The quote went out on Tuesday, the job got busy, and nobody remembered Friday. If that’s your week, a reminder app won’t fix it.

Our WhatsApp Inbox and CRM includes broadcasts and scheduled sends, paced within daily limits and sending hours. We connect your number for you, with no setup fee and no Meta per-message fees. Three people work from their own logins, each chat is assigned to a person, and every chat is filed against the lead. Tasks and follow-up reminders sit on the job board.

It’s S$119 a month on annual billing. The inbox pricing page has every plan, plus the plan with an AI agent that sends one follow-up when a lead goes quiet. Start with our free message templates, or read our guide on what a CRM does. If it’s the first reply you’re losing, look at our WhatsApp AI agent. Our pipeline templates show the stages for your trade, and our free WhatsApp link generator gets new customers into a chat. We also run the SEO, Google Ads and Facebook ads that bring enquiries in.

On a free 30-minute call we’ll show you scheduled sends on your own number and follow-ups. You only get a quote if we can help.
