How to check your website's SEO in three steps
Paste the address of one page. Start with the one that worries you, like the page your web designer called SEO-friendly or the one that should bring you customers.
Press Check my page, and the checker fetches that page and reads its code.
Start with the checks it failed. Each one says what to change.
14 checks that help Google read and show your page
One page, 14 checks. The word count is there for information and doesn't count toward your score.
| Check | What it looks for | If it's flagged, change this |
|---|---|---|
| HTTPS | A page that loads over https://, which fails if it doesn't | Ask your web host to switch on HTTPS, then redirect every http:// address to its https:// version. |
| Redirects | An address that loads directly, with one redirect shown for information and two or more flagged as a warning | Point the old address at the final one in a single redirect, and use the final address in your links and ads. |
| Indexable | No noindex in the robots meta tag or the X-Robots-Tag header, and it fails if it finds one, since a noindex tells Google to leave the page out | Remove the noindex, unless you want this page kept out of Google. On WordPress, check Settings > Reading and your SEO plugin's setting for the page. |
| Title tag | A title short enough for Google to show in full, which fails when it's missing and warns when it's cut off | Add a title that says what the page offers and where, like "Aircon servicing in Tampines - Your business name". If it's cut off, put the words people search first. |
| Meta description | A description Google can show in full, with a warning when it's missing, too long or so short that Google may swap in other text | Write one or two sentences on what the page offers and why someone should click. |
| H1 heading | Exactly one H1, so a page with none fails and a page with several gets a warning | Keep one H1 that says what the page is about, and change any others to H2s. |
| Subheadings | At least one H2, with a warning when there are none | Split the page into sections, each with an H2 that says what the section covers. |
| Canonical tag | One canonical address in the page's head, with a warning for none and a fail for two different ones | Add one canonical tag pointing at the page's own address, and delete any extras, since a theme and an SEO plugin sometimes both add one. |
| Mobile viewport | A viewport tag, and it fails without one, because phones then show the desktop layout zoomed out | Add this line to the page's head: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> |
| Language attribute | A lang attribute on the html tag, with a warning when it's missing | Add lang="en", or your page's language, to the html tag. |
| Image alt text | Alt text on every image, with a warning for any that lack it (a page with no images is shown for information) | Give each image a short alt text that says what it shows. A purely decorative image can have an empty one. |
| Structured data | JSON-LD blocks that are valid JSON, which fails if one is broken (a page with none is shown for information) | Paste the page into Google's Rich Results Test to find the broken block, then fix it. |
| Social share tags | Both og:title and og:image, with a warning if either is missing | Add both, so a link shared on WhatsApp or Facebook shows a title and a picture. |
| Word count | Roughly how many words of main content the page has, menus and footer left out, for information only | Nothing to change, because length isn't a ranking rule. |
Start with the checks your page failed
A long list of red warnings doesn't tell you where to start, so this checker runs 14 basics on one page and puts the failed ones at the top. A failed check can keep a page out of Google or make it look broken on a phone. A stray noindex, for example, tells Google to leave the page out, so fix those first.
Warnings come next. They won't keep the page out of Google, but they change what people see in the results, like a title that gets cut off halfway.
Most fixes are a single line, changed in your website's editor or SEO plugin. Do them yourself or send the list to whoever looks after your site, then check the page again and see it pass.
A clear, prioritised list of what to fix across your site, whenever you want one
This checker reads one page. Our AI SEO Software audits your site whenever you like, and each problem comes with what to change and on which page.
On the Grow plan, from S$159 a month, it also builds an SEO strategy from your site and your competitors' sites: which pages to fix and which to write next, for Google and for AI answers like ChatGPT. Then it writes the articles in your voice.
Plans start at S$79 a month, paid in Singapore dollars, with no setup fee. We set up your account for you. Audits and articles use credits from your plan: a site audit takes 3, and the Audit plan comes with 75 a month.
